FUNimation Entertainment acquires all assets of Dattebayo

In a surprise move, FUNimation Productions LTD. revealed in an exclusive interview, which appears in the latest issue of AniMAG, that they recently bought out internet fansubbing giant, Dattebayo Fansubs LLC. In the wake of this news, FUNimation stocks, traded under the "WEJ" ticker symbol, rose nearly 13% in value. After suffering large third quarter losses, Dattebayo Fansubs parent company, GNAA Marketing Inc, decided to sell off the property.
"It's all about growth, both for us and the industry," Tim Copca, chief executive officer of GNAA, said in a conference call. "At first when they approached us we refused. However, we eventually felt that with the amount of resources we were dedicating to this branch's projects, it would be better for both our shareholders and customers if we simply allowed someone more in tune with the industry to take over the project."
Some analysts see FUNimation's move as designed to strengthen its position within the consumer market. Experts seem to agree that this move could help the company meet rising customer demand for fast, high quality releases, and to capitalize on the growing internet market.
While the acquisition has already been agreed upon, the details remain in negotiation. Finalization of the specific details of this deal are expected to be finished within the next month. FUNimation has already confirmed that the staff currently operating Dattebayo Fansubs will remain largely the same, with the exception of some managerial positions and some changes in the quality assurance department.
FUNimation said it was unable to release financial projections regarding the deal. "This is simply uncharted territory," Barry Nubium, spokesperson for FUNimation, said. "While we are confident in our decision, it is still too early to make any predictions." He went on to confirm the fact that the same financial plan regarding releases will remain in effect for anticipated releases by Dattebayo Fansubs. "We realize that cost, specifically the lack thereof, has largely been the appeal of Dattebayo Fansubs to the consumer market up until this point. We have no plans to make changes to this immediately. However, we will continue to consider such possibilities as circumstances change."
"Dattebayo Fansubs knows about, and appreciates, customer concern regarding the quality of our releases. While there will be some changes in the way our subs are presented, we think fans will be pleased by the changes. As a part of FUNimation, we have an obligation to uphold their high standards. While things will not be exactly the same as they were before, fans can look to other FUNimation releases to get an idea of what Dattebayo Fansubs will be bringing to fans in the future. We hope to make our future releases as high quality as possible, hopefully something approaching FUNImation's work on Dragonball Z."
